“Cut Off Your Nose To Spite Your Face…”
I recall as a child, and even a young adult, wondering exactly what that phrase meant. It sounded interesting.  I would actually stand in a mirror to try to visualize what this would look like.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia explains this phrase: "Cutting off the nose to spite the face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive over-reaction to a problem: "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutting_off_the_nose_to_spite_the_face
It further explains:  The expression has since become a blanket term for (often unwise) self-destructive actions motivated purely by anger or desire for revenge. For example, if a man was angered by his wife, he might burn down their house to punish her; however, burning down her house would also mean burning down his, along with all their combustible personal possessions.
Our lawmakers appear to be quite ironic in their rationale regarding what makes sense for our country. The people they won’t increase the minimum wage for are the ones they expect to serve their food; babysit their children; clean their houses; cut their lawns; wash their cars; or anything making their lives convenient.
These are the same people they will affect by their desire to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act. However, if you succeed, the people who desperately need healthcare and don't have access to it are the ones you rely on.
You think you are hurting me by cutting me off; but you are actually cutting yourself out of resources & encouragement.
People “hate” President Obama, but enjoy having healthcare, a recovered economy, and automotive jobs. They are beneficiaries of his humility, kindness, and diplomacy respected throughout the world.
I actually heard of a story of a woman in need of public assistance. The ONLY person qualified to help her was an African-American woman. The woman in need resisted getting help simply because of her. She initially chose to "suffer" than to get available assistance. She grudgingly accepted...
Corporations that insist on spraying plants with pesticides and pumping animals with antibiotics for rapid growth and profits are eventually poisoning themselves and their future legacies.
“Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught, we will realize that we can’t eat money.” – Cree Indian Proverb
The Bible notes this. Proverbs 30:33 (NKJV):”33 For as the churning of milk produces butter, And wringing the nose produces blood, So the forcing of wrath produces strife.” The Lord is actually saying; do not provoke others to anger, or you will suffer the consequences. http://www.bibleabookoftruth.com/misquotedbiblequotes.pdf
People should realize…the boat you are poking holes in is the one you are riding in. You may drown the Captain, but you will also drown yourself.
