Complaining = Whining
A very popular hymn that is often sung at church is I Won’t Complain.  Some of the lyrics are:
“I've had some good days;
I've had some hills to climb.
I've had some weary days ;
And some sleepless nights .
But when I look around ,
And I think things over.
All of my good days
Outweigh my bad days;
I won't complain.”
 “Complain” is defined as: to say or write that you are unhappy, sick, uncomfortable, etc., or that you do not like something; to say (something that expresses annoyance or unhappiness).  http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/complain
As Christians, this concept is often misinterpreted. Stating “the struggle is real” is not complaining. It is being honest. Pretending not to hurt when you do is not noble or honored by God. It is HOW YOU DEAL WITH IT that matters.
If you do NOTHING: don’t follow doctor’s recommendations; are not obedient; don’t rely on God; don’t encourage anyone else or “stay stuck in your story,” yet proclaim you trust God, it simply does not reconcile.

I have often heard others "complain" about their health; their jobs; their spouses and kids; their finances; the President; the government...anything and everything...without taking any responsibility or offering any recommendations.

How can the world see God in you? How is God glorified in your complaining? HE isn't...

“It’s My Journey…"

Having never had any health issues within 48 years of life is truly a blessing. However, being diagnosed with MS three years ago has taken me down a path that is rocky, unpredictable and VERY NEW to me. I travel it with wonder, empathy, humility and perseverance.

When I say that “my health journey is mine to travel alone,” this does not discount the many family and friends who help and are affected along the way.

I think of Diana Nyad, who successfully swam from Cuba to Florida. Although there were many people who helped with event promotion, set-up, logistics, medical care and encouragement, SHE is the one who had to be in the water, swimming alone. http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/02/world/americas/diana-nyad-cuba-florida-swim/

I also think of a marathon runner, running for a cause like MS.
There are so many people affected directly and indirectly.
Such as…
…those who helped you train.
…those on the side-lines, cheering you on.
…those who are constantly giving you water along the way.
…those who give you clean towels or who wash your soiled ones.
…those who donated toward your efforts.
…the policeman having to work overtime to block the streets and provide
    added security.
…the EMTs having to be available in case of any health emergencies.
…the people offering up prayers on your behalf.
…media personnel covering the event.

Yes…so many people are affected by your journey. We acknowledge them and greatly appreciate them.

But…YOU are the one having to run. YOU are the one that must suffer the aches and pains. Only YOU are running this race. You are the one…the only one…who has to do the work…JUST YOU…

“Knocked Down" but not "Knocked Out”

Life can be like a boxing match. You go through life, thinking that all is fine and then.....WHAM!......you are hit with the unexpected.

I realize that now. After having NEVER experienced illness before in 48 of my 51 years of life it can be quite devastating. After an unexpected diagnosis of MS, I continue to feel like I am “knocked down.” in the ring. I lay there…dazed, hurt, uncertain.

The referee is counting” 1-2- 3…”

I just lie there. Maybe I should just remain here. Getting up hurts. It requires so much from me…

What if I get knocked down again? The pain…the fear…the uncertainty…

“4 -5!!” the referee counts…

Hey! Snap out of it! You can't give up like this. Maybe God is not finished with me yet?

“6 – 7 – 8…” the referee continues counting.

Get Up!

The referee checks me out. He looks me intently in the eyes and asks me if I am alright to continue.
I nod my head, “Yes.”

Pulling my gloves to my face…I boldly, strategically, confidently move toward my opponent…

…With the confidence of David vs. Goliath…

Blocking...Moving…Ducking…Dodging…

I get hit on the head…in the rib cage…wind knocked out of me...

I’m knocked against the ropes…blow after blow I withstand…


I try to channel Muhammad Ali's "rope-a-dope" technique...

I push him off…I'm out of breath...blood dripping from my forehead...

Still I fight on...

We will go all 15 Rounds…

The JUDGE will render the final decision…that judge is GOD…

F.O.M.O.

Fear Of Missing Out or FOMO is "a pervasive apprehension that others might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent". This social angst is characterized by "a desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing". While others defined FOMO as a fear of regret, which may lead to a compulsive concern that one might miss an opportunity for social interaction, a novel experience, profitable investment or other satisfying event.

With the development of technology, people's social and communicative experiences have been expanded from face-to-face to online. On one hand, modern technologies (i.e., mobile phones, smartphones) and social networking services (i.e., Facebook, Twitter) provide a unique opportunity for people to be socially engaged with a reduced "cost of admission". FOMO could result from a variety of social activities in which one is absent, such as a conversation, a TV show, a wedding, a party, or a delicious restaurant in town. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_of_missing_out

I suffered from this many years ago, primarily in my professional life. I was somewhat addicted to CNN because I wanted to stay current on the news. I rarely slept past sunrise, because I didn’t want the world going on without me.

My current situation, managing health issues, has forced me to “be still.” I now understand that I don’t have to go to everything, be involved in everything or see everything unfold…and that life is OK.

GOD does not need me to monitor the universe. He just needs me to be obedient.

All I can do is think about how much of life we are actually missing out on by FOMO. 
The irony is that, while we want to do what others are doing, most want to do what you are doing.

“Clean Up On Aisle 9…”

This can often be heard over the intercom system of a retail business. It is often the store managers alerting the employees that there is some mishap that needs to be addressed. It typically is the result of someone dropping or mishandling an item, thus causing it to break or spill.

We often have the same attitude toward God. We want to do what we want to do…live how we want to live…but when it doesn’t go as we planned…we call on God, expecting Him to clean it up.

In the online encyclopedia of biblical Christianity, Theopedia it explains:
Probably the most common definition of free will is the "ability to make choices without any prior prejudice, inclination, or disposition," and specifically that these "free will" choices are not ultimately predestined by God. According to the Bible, however, the choices of man are not only ultimately determined by God, but morally determined by one's nature. Man is indeed a free moral agent and freely makes choices, but in his natural state he necessarily acts in accordance with his fallen nature. Man willingly makes choices that flow from the heart, and sin is also always attributed to the desires of the heart (James 1:13-15). When a person turns to Christ, he does so not because of his own "free will", but because God has supernaturally enabled and moved him to do so through regeneration. God never coerces man's will, rather God gives the ability to believe through the work of the Holy Spirit. Man is most free in heaven, where he is morally unable to sin. Although many appear to maintain a “I-can-do-what-I-want-to-do” mentality, without faithfulness and obedience to God, the consequences can prove to be harsh, even fatal.
