Time…
I woke this morning remembering the song our Senior
Class sang together at our 1982 Moore County High School Graduation in
Lynchburg TN.
It was by the Alan Parson’s Project. It is called “Time.”
The lyrics are:
“Time, flowing
like a river
Time, beckoning
me
Who knows when
we shall meet again, If ever.
But time, Keeps
flowing like a river
To the sea.
Goodbye my love,
Maybe for forever
Goodbye my love,
The tide waits for me
Who knows when
we shall meet again, If ever.
But time, Keeps
flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to
the sea.
Till it's gone
forever, Gone forever, Gone forevermore.
Goodbye my
friends, Maybe forever
Goodbye my
friends, The stars wait for me
Who knows where
we shall meet again, If ever.
But time, Keeps
flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to
the sea.
Till it's gone
forever, Gone forever, Gone forevermore.”
Wow…has it ever rung true!
This was 32 years ago. We have lost several of our
55 classmates since then. 2014 will mark our turning 50-years-old. Many of us are
now parents, have children graduating college, and even grandparents. We were considered
the end of the Baby Boomer Generation (1946-1964).
We have lived under 5 presidents, 4 who are still
living today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States
There have been 32 wars & conflicts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_United_States
We have endured disasters such as 9/11/01; Hurricane
Katrina; the Gulf Oil Spill; Hurricane Sandy; the Sandy Hook School Shooting;
and the Boston Marathon Tragedy.
Time has definitely moved on since those naïve’,
exciting, fearless, the-sky-is-the-limit high school days. If we are blessed, many of us may live another 40
even 50 years.
We have to endeavor to make every moment of our
lives count. Inhale the beauty and amazement of it all. As the song reminds us:
“Time
keeps flowing like a river to the sea…”
