“Enjoying Your HEAVEN On Earth…”
We are often distracted with those
who appear to have it all…Wealth-Fame-Great Looks-Excellent Health, etc.
They fail to realize that…without
GOD…they are enjoying their temporary piece of "Heaven" right now, while making
no investment into eternal rewards.
We are reminded of this in Luke 16:19-25
(NKJV), with the story of The Rich Man and Lazarus:
19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple
and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain
beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to
be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs
came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried
by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And
being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and
Lazarus in his bosom. 24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy
on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool
my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son,
remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise
Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.”
People often invest so much of their
time and resources in seeking to be wealthy. We see the millionaires and
billionaires in the nation and world. They appear to have all of the luxuries
of life…designer cars, designer clothes, any and all of the material things life
can provide. Wealthy people appear to enjoy life to the fullest with expensive
vacations, endless access, & unlimited possessions, operating under the assumption that they acquired it themselves.
There are others who are enjoying “earthly
pleasures.” These are received by living & doing anything desired. Our society
condones living your life any reckless, vicarious way you choose.
The popular acronym is YOLO…You Only Live Once.
'YOLO'
is 'you only live once', a modern exclamation of enthusiasm that has reached
viral popularity in 2013. This expression is the evolution of the phrase 'carpe
diem' ('seize the day'). It is used to inspire courage and bravery, or to
justify doing something idiotic and embarrassing.

This basically means that you are
free to live the life you have been given anyway you choose.
However, the Bible
does not reconcile this notion. Without God, there is no hope for
living eternally with the Lord.
If we don’t keep our eyes on the
ultimate goal…the only “Heaven” many of us can ever hope for is being enjoyed here,
in this very temporary existence on earth…right now.
